The ethos of Halstead in Bloom, and indeed the whole of the In Bloom effort is to encourage pride in the environment and a desire to keep the local area clean, tidy and a pleasant place to live, work and visit. The Halstead in Bloom team strive to achieve this by spreading the word and showing what can be done with many hands making light work in litter picking, developing green areas, planting containers, etc. There are no subscriptions to pay to be part of the Halstead in Bloom team, and there’s no need to attend meetings, fill in forms or pledge allegiance. All that is required is a pride in the Town and a wish to make sure that Halstead is prominent in the Braintree District.

HiB works in close partnership with Halstead Town Council, Braintree District Council and Essex County Council – and it is a partnership in every sense of the word. There is much that volunteers can bring to the effort that is required to ensure that all runs well within the Town. Of course there is a great deal that can only be done by paid agencies, but at the very least volunteers can report deficiencies and instances of fly tipping, heavy litter, pot holes, etc.

The motto for Halstead in Bloom is “do it if you can; if you can’t then tell someone who can get it done”!

In 2011 the Halstead in Bloom team was given the Queen’s Award for Volunteers – the equivalent to an MBE – for their services to the community.
