NEWS:  *Update on team members.  Alan is recovering at home after his recent operation.  He is feeling much better now and has been out for short walks.  He is due a check-up just before Christmas. Oliver is celebrating getting engaged recently.  We give best wishes to Oliver and Ben – they won’t be getting married until after Oliver finishes his studies in 2020 – plenty of time to buy a hat!  *Co-op Community Collection.  Team were invited to attend a cheque presentation at the Co-op store on Colchester Road and it was announced that HiB would receive a total of £1630.99 from member donations this year.  £492.56 has already been paid and the balance will be paid to HiB shortly.  Thank you to all who have named HiB as a beneficiary of charity donations. There will be publicity about this donation. *Tesco ‘Bags of Help’.  Christine reported that following her application for funds from Tesco’s scheme HiB was named as second place beneficiary with a grant of £1000.00.  This money is for the Junior Bloom campaign and will be spent on safety items, gardening tools, seeds/plants and promotional material.  Well done Christine.  *Guys in the Park Event.  was well supported, and HiB received a ‘thank you’ certificate.  It was agreed that guys need a re-vamp before next year!  *Speaking engagements: HiB team will be speaking to Tiptree Gardening Club next week, and have two ‘bookings’ for next year – Halstead Baptist Church and Ridgewell W.I.
EVENTS:  *Christmas Fayre and switch on of Christmas lights. will take place on Saturday 1st December.*Christmas Trees at St. Andrew’s Church will be displayed on 1st and 2nd December.  HiB has a tree and there are about 36 others to view.  *Torchlight Procession.  Will be on Wednesday 5th December.  Those who have offered to marshall and rattle tins please meet at the Town Council torch site on Market Hill at 6.15pm.  Please wear HiB High Viz Jackets.  *Rivercare.  Next event is Sunday 2nd December.  Meet 10am at Sainsbury’s Car Park. *Next Community Litter Pick. Sunday 30th December. ALL WELCOME.  Meet 10.30am at Sainsbury’s Car Park.   *HiB Christmas Meal will be on Friday 18th January 2019 at St. Andrew’s Hall.  Margaret reported that about 50 people will attend. There will be a raffle on the evening.  *Halstead Horticultural Society Spring Show will be on Sunday 31st March at St. Andrew’s Hall.  There will be classes for daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, polyanthus, primroses as well as an ‘Easter Bonnet’ class, decorated cup cakes, moulded jelly and children’s classes.  Entry fee for all classes is 50p (children’s classes free) and there are 3 prizes in each group – go on, give it a go!!  Entry forms will be at Halstead Icing after Christmas and also at other outlets in town. * Early notification of HiB Quiz for 2019.  David has booked the Con Club for Friday 18th October.  Hopefully early notification will prevent double bookings for quizzes in the town.  Date will be sent to HTC for display on their web site and posters for October.

ANGLIA  IN  BLOOM’18.  *Anglia in Bloom Autumn Seminar Feedback and judges’ comments: Those who attended thought it was an enjoyable event.  Catering was good with local food served by friendly people from the village of Filby.  Speaker was good, it was a shame that second speaker hadn’t arrived in time.  Judges said that Halstead lost marks in the Environmental section by not showing biodiversity and wildlife habitats.  They also said they would have liked more information on town’s recycling. Street furniture in need of refurbishment was also mentioned and it was suggested that perhaps some flowers could be grown on the Guides’ allotment to attract wildlife.  Judges did say they were being very ‘picky’ as Halstead’s entry was very good and they hoped that standard would be maintained next year.  Fiona suggested that we need a ‘wow’ factor – ideas please!  Christine asked for an up to date photo of a Partnership meeting, can be done.  Sec. noted that entry for Halstead had been lodged already, and Halstead Public Gardens and Halstead Cemetery had also lodged entries for 2019.

*Route for AiB judges’ tour 2019.  We must start thinking about Halstead’s entry for next year.  We need to show all the elements required: Biodiversity, Community Project, Conservation Project, Sustainable Garden, Floral Display by an Individual or Community, Garden for Special Needs, Sheltered Housing/Care Home Garden. Grown Your Own, Industrial/Commercial Area, Local Authority Floral Display, Public Open Space, Young People’s Project (aged under 12 years), Young People’s Project (aged 12-18 years) and we need to consider a route around the town to show these and without looking at any grott spots!  Please give this some serious thought as we need to be working with Braintree DC and Halstead TC to sort out any grot spots along the way in good time and without panics!.

WORKING  PARTIESFor all working parties meet at 2pm. on Town Bridge/Halstead Icing car park unless advised otherwiseTuesday 4th December: Tea Pary at the Resource Centre to say thank you for all the work done there.  Meet there at 2pm.  Thursday 6th December. Ruth has given 300 bulbs (mainly tulips, muscari, hyacinths) and these need to be planted ASAP.  Meet at Halstead Icing Car Park to decide where they will be planted.  Tuesday 11th December.  tea at the White Hart.  Meet there at 2pm. Cost will be about £2.50pp.  Tuesday 18th December.
